Hardboard (HDF-high density fiberboard) is an engineered wood product similar to MDF, but stronger since the wood fibers are compressed and glued together. Hardboard can be used for non-load bearing interior use in dry conditions.  Hardboard also has a very fine surface, which makes it suitable for many different finishes.
